Rest area under the canopy

A trail through the deciduous forest at the heritage centre in Viala is to become more accessible for more visitors. Vingåker municipality, together with the local heritage and nature conservation associations, has been granted funding from the County Administrative Board of Södermanland through LONA, the Local Nature Conservation Initiative.

The trail will be gravelled to a rest area under the tree canopy and made easier to use for older people, people with disabilities and families with children. From the rest area, a simpler path leads back to the heritage centre.

Information boards and small detours are planned along the trail. The area is rich in species and home to red-listed plants such as ash, spring sedge and clustered club-rush, according to the municipality.

Completion in 2028

The nature conservation association hopes more people will discover the area and take an interest in preserving it. The heritage association sees opportunities to work with schools and care services on outdoor activities.

The work is expected to be completed in 2028. LONA is a state grant that encourages municipalities and non-profit associations to carry out nature conservation and outdoor recreation projects.
