The yellow castle and its ponds make Säfstaholm a lovely stop when you want to see more of Vingåker. Start with a stroll through the park and take your time. According to the municipality’s Naturkartan listing, it is about a ten-minute walk from the railway station.

A park with a past

Gustaf Trolle-Bonde gave the park its English landscape style in the nineteenth century. A less formal park replaced the earlier Baroque garden, and the ponds in front of the castle were created. Look at the columns by the entrance, too: they belong to the same rebuilding that gave the house its neoclassical appearance.

At home with the count

Inside, the permanent exhibitions explore life on the estate. The drawing room and mirror anteroom have been furnished using inventories from the 1830s. Here you can see Johan Gustaf Sandberg’s Midsummer Dance at Säfstaholm, which returned to the castle in 2022 after more than a century away.

On the second floor, follow the count’s journey through Europe, discover everyday work behind the scenes and learn about Vingåker’s traditional dress. Temporary art exhibitions offer more reasons to return; the 2026 summer exhibitions ended on 27 September.

Before you visit

The address is Henalavägen 1. Regular opening hours from 27 September to 11 June are Tuesday–Friday, 11:00–16:00. Adult admission is SEK 95; visitors under 20 enter free. Exhibitions may have additional opening days. See the castle’s website for current hours and programmes.

Sultans castle café has closed for the season but opens on selected autumn weekends. The castle is partly accessible: there is a ramp entrance at the back and a lift to the second and third floors, but high thresholds remain and the shop is reached only by stairs. Call +46 151 191 86 if you need help planning your visit.
